The 124’ Nelseco ferry ran primarily the Point Judith (Narragansett R.I) to Block Island run from 1981 to 2010. Certified for up to 800 passengers and about 25 autos, it made the 15 mile crossing in 55 minutes. As traffic to and fro the island increased, at first she was joined by the larger Carol Jean, and then by a host of more modern auto ferries and hi-speed passenger ferries. The Nelseco followed the classic and handsome Ines of ferries deigned by J.W. Gilbert Associates.
